New AIA New York State President Focuses on Raising Awareness, Regulatory Reform, Smart Growth and Sustainable Design Initiatives

President of Mount Kisco Firm to
Represent 7000+ Licensed Architects

Russell A. Davidson, AIA will serve as President of the AIA New York State, Inc. for 2007.   Mr. Davidson will lead the professional organization to represent more than 7,000 licensed architects in New York State.  AIA NYS was formed 75 years ago and today works to address governmental affairs, public relations, leadership, continuing education and the communication needs of its members, all architects and the profession of architecture.  AIANYS is the second largest regional component of the AIA in the nation.  Mr. Davidson will represent the architects of New York State at regional and national conferences throughout the year.

Mr. Davidson has served on the AIA NYS Board of Directors since 2001, first as a Director and most recently as Treasurer.  He was nominated and elected by the Board of Directors of AIA NYS and is a past president and board member of the American Institute of Architects Westchester Mid-Hudson Chapter.  As President of AIA NYS, Mr. Davidson will work with local and state chapter leaders to advocate for legislative change on issues that effect architects and architecture in New York State.  Specifically, his efforts will focus on continuing to raise awareness about the importance of the architect in public policy, and engaging State legislators on the topics of incentives for sustainable design, liability reform, public bidding reform and a shift towards smart growth.

New initiatives for AIA NYS in 2007 include working with governments to improve the regulatory environment and encouraging the profession to have a stronger voice on local and state issues that effect the quality of the built environment.

Mr. Davidson is the president and managing partner of KG&D Architects & Engineers, PC.  He joined KG&D in 1986 as an Associate of the firm and served as a Principal for six years before becoming president in 2000.  He is a resident of Katonah, New York and holds a Masters of Architecture degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architectural Aesthetics from Union College.
