Jonathan LaRocca, of North Salem, received this year's Scholarship Design Grant from the Westchester Mid-Hudson AIA, at the organization's annual golf fund raiser on June 26, 2006. The $5,000 scholarship is given to a qualified architecture student entering his or her final year of study and is based on the student's academic performance, portfolio, and proposed thesis project. Jonathan will receive a Master of Architecture degree from Rice University, in Houston, Texas. His thesis project will research how cities can sustainably respond to the loss of nearby farmland due to urban and suburban sprawl.
Jonathan also recently won the Margaret-Everson Fossi Traveling Fellowship for this year's best studio design project. He plans to use this fellowship to travel to Australia this summer for architectural research. Mr. LaRocca received his undergraduate degree in Design & Environmental Analysis from Cornell University, and has interned in Westchester architect offices of Carol Kurth and Anderson LaRocca Anderson Haynes.
