Architect Member
Any architect who is currently
entitled under state law to
practice architecture and
use the title Architect in
any state of the U.S. Good
standing in the profession
and in the community shall
also be demonstrated. Architect
Members may use, in connection
with their practice and work,
the initials AIA after their
names.
Associate
Unlicensed to practice
architecture, but meeting
one of the following: Participating
in career responsibilities
recognized by licensing authorities
as constituting credit toward
licensure (Intern); Under
the supervision of an architect
in a professional or technical
capacity; A faculty member
in a university program in
architecture; Hold a professional
degree in architecture.
International Associate
Holder of an architecture
license or equivalent from
a non-U.S. licensing authority,
but without license in the
U.S.
Individual Allied
Members
Individuals with established
professional reputations who
are registered to practice
their professions where such
requirements exist, or persons
who are employed outside of
architectural practice but
are involved in positions
allied to the field of architecture.
Individual Allied Members
may include engineers, planners,
landscape architects, sculptors,
muralists, artists, and others
in government, education,
journalism, manufacturing,
industry, and/or other fields
allied to architecture.
Member Emeritus
Application may be made by
any Architect Member of 15
years who has reached the
age of 70, or has reached
the age of 60 and retired,
or is unable to work due to
incapacitation.
The Architect Member who is
an owner or manager in a firm
using Architects to perform
services for the public is
also responsible to the Institute
for supplemental dues beginning
January 1 of the year following
admission based on the number
of registered architects in
the firm as of January 2.
